Happy Birthday, Smyler!
I hope you enjoyed your special day.
i just posted something.
and the heading was "it" i acccident posted it before i was done!
and i dont know how to fix it!!
is it me or....................do you think our children are being overwhelmed with all the extra homework they are recieving from school now?
i have 2 kids.
one being 15 and the other being 12. i just find that the homework load is so much, compared to when i went to school.i mean we are talking about at least 2 hours for my oldest son and 1-2 hours for the youngest.
There is just so much kids have to learn . So much new knowledge. To be globally competitive, these kids have to cover the material in elementry, junior high and high school, so they will be ready to take on the challenges of tech school, college or university. I have a Science Degree, and found that my son covered some of the chemistry and biology in high school, that I learned in university.
As my kids got into high school and university, it re-inforced to me that younger kids do have to just get down to it and learn it well, even if it means missing hockey practise, or dance class. As they get into higher grades there is less and less time for review, and the pace of learning is faster. I would consider 2 hours of homework a night perfectly normal for high school for an academic program. In university, sometimes you can expect double or triple that.
There is just too much increasingly complicated material to cover daily without the re-inforcement of homework.
Having said that, I agree, it is annoying when teachers give "make work" assignments that aren't teaching anything.
the other day, i asked for help finding some info regarding the flip-flops on conscientious objecting.
a big thank you to those who helped me out.. quick background:.
i'm a star wars fan.
Wolfgirl,
Just fantastic. You did a great, logical job. I agree that the best weapon is pulling out their own literature.
I copied and pasted the link onto my address bar and it worked fine.
wohoo !!.
just saw this: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/skilled/notice-passmark.html.

women still can't handle mic's, count money, count attendance, or give public talks.
"in the first century, some of (the women in the bible) had the privilege of ministering to jesus an his apostles.

Gumby,
I don't know much about churches in the United States. Here in Canada, the Anglicans and United Church (and there may be many others I don't know about) both have equal involvement of women and men in all aspects of church work. My cousin is a woman and an Anglican priest. The bishop of the Anglican diocese of Edmonton is Victoria, a woman. I know of lots of women ministers in the United Church. At various times I, and many other women, have been heavily involved in the vestry (the committee that helps run and organize things), at the church where we attend. The vestry is usually made up of about a 50/50 split.
I agree with you that there are lots of paternatistic, male dominant churches out there, but there are more progressive ones, too.

mr bowen, .
i am passing this on for your information, if you need to give advice (or need advice) for those getting involved in any way with the watchtower.
it is for christians and non-christians, so take what you will from it.
the jehovah's witnesses will want the kids raised as jehovah's witnesses and teach them all of the society's peculiar doctrines behind your back.
are the borg still monitoring this board (and others)?
if so they seem to be allowing a large amount of time before taking any retributive action.
has anyone heard of any follow thru from the borg from being identified here recently?
I am sure some Witnesses moniter this board, especially if they think they know anyone or any situation posted about. I suspect the elders or COs don't have to follow the rules the others do, about avoiding the internet.
I am not JW, but I certainly got the "feeling" from a zealous well connected JW, that this person had seen this board and read certain posts, and didn't like them. It was quite eerie. But it also reinforced to me, that being cautious is just good common sense, when who knows what strangers are reading the forum and putting things together.
I have nothing to fear from the Watchtower, but I still like my privacy.
Thank you very much. I have so much to be thankful for. I am having 10 for dinner, mostly family but a few strays. It will be great fun.
